Have you ever wanted to learn to play an instrument, but you didn’t know for sure which one? Or maybe you just don’t have the money to invest in something like that. It can be quite costly to try something new especially when you’re not sure if that’s what instrument you’d like to play.
Thankfully the Nashville Public Library has a possible solution to this problem.
If you go to look at the Library of Things (https://library.nashville.gov/services/library-things) you can check out various instruments and try them out before you buy them.
Some are even available in full or half sizes made especially for children. Others are made specifically for left or right handed people.
Here’s what they currently have available:
- Acoustic and Classical Guitars
- Keyboards
- Violins and Violas
- Ukeleles
- Bongo Drums, Percussion Kits, Cabasas (a percussion instrument that produces a rattling sound similar to a rattlesnake)
- Mandolins
- Banjos
- Lap Harps and Lyre Harps
- A Handbell Set
- A Xylophone
- Kalimba (an African instrument often called a thumb piano or mbira.)
How does the Library of Things work? If you see an instrument you like on their website, you can place a hold on the item and have it delivered to your local branch where you can check it out just as easily as you would a library book — and best of all, it’s free! *Items must be returned in good condition!
