The Contributor provides an opportunity for people experiencing homelessness or housing instability to earn income by selling Nashville’s street newspaper.
No ID is required to attend training.
How It Works
Attend Training
No ID is required to train. Training takes place every Monday and Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. and lasts approximately 90 minutes. Training is held at the Downtown Presbyterian Church – 154 Rep John Lewis Way N., Nashville, TN 37219.
Receive A Starter Pack
After completing training, you will receive 10 free newspapers, an all-day bus pass, a temporary vendor badge, and a Where To Turn In Nashville resource guide.
Start Earning
Sell each newspaper for $2 plus tips and keep what you earn.
Work for Yourself
Contributor vendors operate their own micro-businesses. Many vendors set income goals, build regular customers, and establish consistent sales locations throughout Nashville.
Every paper sold creates immediate income and helps vendors build work history, confidence, and community.
More Than A Newspaper
Selling newspapers is never a requirement for receiving help, but for vendors who continue building their business, the Vendor Office often becomes a gateway to much more. After purchasing their first 40 newspapers following training (just $20 total), vendors can access housing navigation, healthcare connections, benefits assistance, and other support based on their own goals and needs.
Many vendors come to The Contributor looking for income. Along the way, some discover opportunities to write, create, lead, and share their experiences with the community.
