Thank you for your interest in interning with The Contributor. Each year The Contributor provides opportunities for income generation to hundreds of homeless and formerly homeless vendors. Our team of dedicated interns and volunteers are crucial to making this possible.
Editorial Intern: The Contributor is seeking an editorial intern who is passionate about telling the stories from the perspective of Nashvillians who have experienced poverty and homelessness. The intern will have the opportunity to have their work published in The Contributor and on its social media sites and walk away with clips to build their portfolio when applying for jobs in college and beyond. Multi-media applicants will be considered. This internship is unpaid and must be used for school credit. Candidates must be current college students. Previous editorial experience is a plus, but no experience is necessary. The Contributor editorial staff will work with intern(s) to assign work that is self-propelled and aligns with the participant’s career goals. Hours Flexible: 5-15 hours per week.
Majors: Radio, Television, Media, Public Relations, Documentary/Film, Digital Communication, Advertising, Journalism, Communication & Media Studies.
Social Work Intern: The Contributor social work intern will get valuable on-the-ground experience working directly with people experiencing homelessness and navigating the process of getting into permanent housing. You will assist our housing navigators with helping out vendors of The Contributor through running errands, making phone calls, and occasional clerical work. All majors will be considered but this would be especially beneficial to those interested in nonprofit management or social work. Candidates must be current college students and must have a reliable vehicle, though mileage will be reimbursed. This internship is unpaid and must be used for school credit. The Contributor office staff will work with the intern(s) to adjust responsibilities and ensure the internship aligns with the participant’s career goals
Vendor Office Intern: This intern will get to work with our vendors and volunteers in the vendor office, selling them papers, finding their mail, answering their questions and just directing traffic. All majors will be considered as this internship provides valuable experience and insight into the how a social enterprise operates, the issues surrounding homelessness, and the how policy affects our neighbors.
