Vendors have earned the right to sell The Contributor. All of the vendors have experienced homelessness and commit to the principles espoused in the freedom of the press, quality journalism, and investment in their own micro-business. After an extensive interview process and training class, they earn 15 free papers. If they like selling, they return and purchase their supply for 25¢ each, sell them on the street for $1.00, and keep the profit. Vendors have the opportunity to earn additional free papers by pursuing greater involvement in The Contributor. They can write stories, photograph events, recruit other quality vendors, attend bi-monthly paper release meetings, and participate in workshops. Successful vendors commit to an Independent Contractor Agreement and a Vendor Code of Conduct, which they agree to uphold with measures of support and accountability offered by Vendor Staff.
