Q&A: Titans Mascot T-Rac Explains Why He's The Raccoon For The Job

Tennessee’s favorite backyard bandit gives the down low on his role in bringing the upcoming NFL draft to Nashville and what he whispers in Mariota’s ear.

T-Rac, while raccoons are the Tennessee state animal, other species are plentiful. Have you taken any flak from possums or skunks who feel like they should have been the public face of the Titans?

I didn’t choose the football life, the football life chose me! Haters are always going to hate, but they needed an animal that didn’t play dead when the times were rough, and that doesn’t stink under pressure!

Many football players have homes in other areas in the off season. Do you maintain a nest in Florida when the team isn’t playing?

A home is where your rump rests, and my rump never rests! So Nashville is where I am most of off season! You can find me just about anywhere — schools, churches, businesses, and other fun events!

Tailgating is big at Titans’ games. What’s your number one tip for a successful tailgate party?

I love to tailgate with all of the fans before big games! It’s one of my favorite things to do. The only tip I have for a successful tailgate is to make sure you don’t burn your burgers: There is nothing worse than a burnt patty right before a big game!

You recently participated in the NFL Mascots vs. Pee Wees football game. What position did you play?

What position did I not play? I was all over the field! Football is my sport, I have to be good at all of the positions!

Throw us a bone, T-Rac: what do you keep in your locker at Nissan Stadium?

Sunscreen, insect repellent, tick and flea guard, a brush for all of my fur, my uniform, a helmet for good luck, and a picture of my mom.

Of the Titans long-standing rivals, who do you most enjoy beating?

My philosophy is…Beat everyone! There is no team in particular. If you are not on my team I enjoy seeing your face in the grass!

T-Rac, how much influence did you have in Nashville landing the 2019 NFL Draft?

I don’t mean to brag, but I believe all of the weight was on my shoulders. I can’t take all the credit though, as I have a really cool team and some really cool fans who helped me out!

How much time do you spend with Nashville’s other mascots, Gnash of the Predators and the Sounds’ Booster the Rooster?

We are best friends. We do a lot of stuff around town together! We go to charity events together, just to see what is going on. One of our favorite things to do is to crash birthday parties! It’s such a rush!

What’s your favorite part of the Titans game day experience?

There are a lot of things I love about game day at home. The one thing that sticks out the most is my fans! I love the excitement on everyone face! It makes me feel all warm inside.

Can you confirm the rumor Marcus Mariota gets play-calling tips from you?

I plead the Fifth!
